האם מתווכי ידע כמוך, לאחר סיום הלימודים, פעלת לחיזוק הידע על ישראל?
אני כן זוכר שמנהיגים כמו ד"ר פאלוול והכומר ג'ון הייגי (טקסס?) דנו בצורך בתמיכתה של אמריקה בישראל. אני בטוח שיש לזה רמה מסוימת של השפעה עליי ועל עמדתי המתפתחת על היחסים בינינו.ניסיתי לחלוטין להשפיע על "הקהילה שלי" בשנים שחלפו מאז. אבל אני באמת מאמין שהושפעתי מארגונים אחרים הרבה יותר מ-LU, קבוצות כמו Chistian Law Association, American Family Association, Focus on the Family Action, Family Research Council, ולאחרונה, Colorado Family Alliance, Alliance Defending Freedom, ו מועצת המשפחה של קליפורניה. אבל רבים מהארגונים האלה עוסקים בעניינים מקומיים או מדינתיים ולא בנושאים בינלאומיים.
בהקשר לסוגיית המעורבות הפוליטית. האם אתה זוכר שאירחת מועמדים לתפקידים שונים שבהם עודדת את הקהילה שלך להסביר את חשיבות היחסים בין ישראל לארה"ב באמצעות תפילה, שיחות עם נציגים ואירוח מועמדים או פוליטיקאים בכנסייה?
בתור כומר ב-25 השנים האחרונות, עם 17 שנות שירות לפני כן, מעולם לא ביקשתי ממועמד לנאום בפני הקהילה שלנו, ועוד פחות מכך תמך במישהו. אמנם זה נכון שעודדתי באופן אישי אנשים לתמוך באנשים נוצרים שהתמודדו לתפקיד, אבל זה התבסס על נקודות המבט השמרניות הכוללות שלהם ולא בגלל כל עמדה פרו-ישראלית דומיננטית.
מאז השתמשתי במדיה החברתית (2007 ואילך) כדי לקדם עמדה פרו-ישראלית.
האם אתה מעודד את הקהילה לשלוח את עמדתה לחבר קונגרס המייצג את המחוז שלך, לסנאטור מארצך, לנשיא ארה"ב או לכל דמות פוליטית אחרת כאשר יש נושא חשוב לישראל? אם כן, האם אתה זוכר באילו מקרים, והאם הרגשת שהקהילה הופנתה שלך אכן קיבלה תשובה?
במשך שנים רבות עודדתי אנשים לפנות לנבחרי הציבור שלהם – בכל הרמות. אבל אני לא יכול לזכור שעשיתי זאת אי פעם שכן זה נוגע לכל נושא משמעותי לישראל.
יש לנו ומדי פעם מעודדים אחרים לזכור להתפלל עבור ירושלים, כפי שמצווה עלינו בכתובים.
האם אתה מרגיש שאתה ו/או הקהילה שלך מצליחים להשפיע על סדר היום של פוליטיקאים באמצעות מעורבות קהילתית והשמעת קול ברור בנושאים שאתה מאמין בהם, כולל חשיבותה של ישראל?
אני מקווה שהיינו יעילים. אבל, שוב, במונחים שמרניים כלליים ולא ספציפית לישראל. אני מבין שאתה בוחן קשר אבל ייתכן שההשפעה שלי הייתה פחות גלויה מזו של אחרים. לא בגלל שניסיתי להתגנב אלא פשוט כדי לשמור על פרספקטיבה של תמונה גדולה כשאני מחבר את הנקודות עבור אחרים.

- My main thesis tries to prove that the evangelical political power for Israel was built through knowledge debaters like you and others, who when they graduated acted to strengthen knowledge about Israel. Do you feel that this is indeed something you have done for your community?
I do recall leaders like Dr. Fallwell and Pastor John Hagee (Texas?) discussing the need for America's support of Israel. I'm sure it has some level of impact on me and my developing stance on our relations. I have absolutely attempted to influence "my community" in the years since. But I truly believe I've been influenced by other organizations much more than LU, groups like Christian Law Association, American Family Association, Focus on the Family Action, Family Research Council, and more recently, Colorado Family Alliance, Alliance Defending Freedom, and California Family Council. But many of these orgs deal with local or state matters and not international issues. - In the context of the issue of political involvement. Do you remember hosting candidates for various positions in which you encouraged your community to explain the importance of Israeli-US relations through masses, leading conversations and hosting candidates?
As a pastor for the last 25 years, with 17 years of ministry prior to that, I have never asked a candidate to speak before our congregation, much less endorsed someone. While it is true I have personally encouraged people to support Christian individuals who were running for office, it was based on their overall conservative viewpoints and not because of any dominant pro-Israel stance.
I have since used social media (2007 and on) to promote a pro-Israel stance.
- Do you encourage the community to send their position to a congressman representing your district, the senator from your country, the US president or any other political figure when there is an issue important to Israel? If so, do you remember in which cases, and did you feel the community referred yours did indeed receive an answer?
- For many years, I have encouraged people to contact their elected officials – at all levels. But I cannot recall ever doing so as it relates to any issue significant to Israel. We have and occasionally encourage others to remember to pray for Jerusalem, as instructed in the Scriptures.
- Do you feel that you and/or your community are succeeding in influencing the agenda of politicians through community involvement and making a clear voice on issues that you believe in, including the importance of Israel?
- I would hope we've been effective. But, again, in general conservative terms and not specific to Israel. I realize you are exploring a connection but my influence may have been less overt than that of others. Not because I was trying to be stealth but simply to keep a big picture perspective when connecting the dots for others.
